Description

Around the longest day of the year, here in the mountains nights are still cool so spring ephemerals linger on in deep forest shade, but summer herbs and flowers are now emerging. We’ll get to see lots of examples of spring herbs post-flowering and the emerging warm weather summer plants.

We’ll spend most of the day botanizing as you learn to recognize native and introduced plants in abundance now. Basics of sustainable harvesting, some plant taxonomy, and lots of information about how to use early summer herbs as foods and medicines.

Great class for both beginners, and anyone who is interested in becoming more familiar with our local flora. Easy walking for the most part but the ability to stand and walk without discomfort is best for this one. A list of supplies you will need for medicine-making sent with registration confirmation (approximately $15-20 investment.)

This class is just one in a series of Appalachian Herb outings that Patricia is offering this summer. Check out the other dates to learn more about Appalachian herbs throughout the season!
